Castle Branch

Ken owned a record store. With the holidays approaching, he needed additional help, so he hired Becky, a local college student. Everything was working out well with Becky, but the record store did not seem to be doing as well as he expected. Although the store always appeared to be busy, sales were down. When Ken noticed that the store's inventory levels were substantially lower than they should be, he decided to investigate. He installed a video camera behind the register and was shocked at what he saw after only one day. Becky was not ringing up all of the purchases on the cash register. She was instead using a calculator and pocketing the money from every other sale. When he confronted Becky about what he saw on the videotape, she apologetically confessed that she was in heavy debt and needed a fast solution to her problems. Had Ken requested a credit report on Becky before making a hiring decision, he would have seen that it would be extremely difficult for her to handle her debt with the money she was making at the store, thus making her prone to finding alternative ways to finance her debt.
